It is basically the probability or risk of wetter or drier than average weather for the next 3 months. The outlooks are based on the statistics of chance (the odds) taken from Australian rainfall/temperatures and sea surface temperature records for the tropical Pacific and Indian Oceans.

The 3 month maximum temperature outlook displays the probability of exceeding the median maximum temperature across Australia during the next 3 months. It basically shows the chance of daytime temperatures being warmer than average. The outlooks are based on relationships between Pacific and Indian Ocean temperatures and Australian temperatures.

The 3 month minimum temperature outlook displays the probability of exceeding the median minimum temperature across Australia during the next 3 months.
