A day of two halves for Sydney

Graeme Brittain, Friday October 4, 2019 - 10:02 AEST

Very warm air is being directed across the Harbour City this morning ahead of a trough, but conditions will change significantly this afternoon.

As of 9:30am AEST, the mercury had already climbed above 29 degrees. Temperatures are expected to peak in the low-to-mid 30's shortly after midday.

A gusty S/SE’ly wind change is then due to arrive around 1pm this afternoon, which will quickly drop the temperature below the 20 degree mark. Cloud will also increase through the afternoon, as moisture is brought onshore.

Following a much cooler day on Saturday, warmth will rebuild in time for the Labour Day public holiday (NSW, ACT and SA) on Monday.

A very wet weekend for southeast Qld, northeast NSW

11:48 AEST A prolonged rainfall event is set to bring large totals to parts of NSW and Qld from Saturday, with possible heavy falls and flooding.  A low-pressure system in the Coral Sea, a deepening coastal trough and persistent easterlies will bring moisture-laden air into southeast Qld and northeast NSW will bring days of rainfall to the region.  While there is not a drop of rain on the radar over southeast Qld and Northeast NSW on Friday morning, the mass of cloud associated with a low in the Coral Sea will enhance rainfall over the weekend.
