A windy weekend for Sydney

After a run of warm days to start the week in Sydney, it's a different story to end it.

After a four-day run of 25-degree plus days to start the week a powerful low pressure system crossing the nations southeast brought an abrupt end to the pleasant conditions yesterday. After peaking at 26 degrees on Thursday temperatures took a dive as a cold pool of air moved over the region in the wake of the cold front. On Friday the mercury struggled into the mid teens, only reaching 16.5 degrees, the city's coldest day since last winter.

It's not just the change in temperature that's noticeable this weekend however. Strong winds which affected South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria over the last couple of days are now focusing on the NSW coastline. Warnings are in place along the coast stretching north from the South Coast to the Mid North Coast, with a gale warning currently in force for the Sydney coast.

Conditions should improve from the beginning of the week as the low moves further away from the mainland. Gusty winds will remain into Monday but should begin to ease thereafter, with temperatures also climbing back up to around average. Showers should linger until Monday as well, however best to keep the umbrella stashed away until the winds abate in a few days.
