Adelaide shaking off the heat

Kim Westcott, Saturday February 11, 2017 - 10:14 AEDT

After the past three days of scorching heat, Adelaide can look forward to a run of mild temperatures.

With the past three days averaging a maximum of 40 degrees, combining with overnight temperatures only cooling to the mid-20's the heat was a struggle for some. During the peak of the heat, the city reached 42.4 degrees, 13 degrees above the February average.

Today, warm and humid conditions will persist until the southerly winds strengthen and push the remnants of the heat north and out of the city.

On Sunday, after a more comfortable overnight low of 16, mostly sunny skies and fresh southerly winds will see a top temperature in the mid-20's. These mild conditions will persist into Monday.

From Tuesday, temperatures will rebound to near-average, reaching the high 20's until the end of the working week.

A very wet weekend for southeast Qld, northeast NSW

11:48 AEST A prolonged rainfall event is set to bring large totals to parts of NSW and Qld from Saturday, with possible heavy falls and flooding.  A low-pressure system in the Coral Sea, a deepening coastal trough and persistent easterlies will bring moisture-laden air into southeast Qld and northeast NSW will bring days of rainfall to the region.  While there is not a drop of rain on the radar over southeast Qld and Northeast NSW on Friday morning, the mass of cloud associated with a low in the Coral Sea will enhance rainfall over the weekend.
