Another exceptionally warm July in Sydney

Ben Domensino, Thursday August 1, 2019 - 10:49 AEST

Sydney has registered its two warmest Julys on record during the last two years.

Sydney's average maximum temperature last month was 19.7°C. This is a whopping 3.3°C above the long-term average and the city's second highest July average maximum temperature in 160 years of records.

The month came close to trumping the record 19.9°C set during July 2018, although a couple of cooler and showery days at the end of the month dragged the average down.

Only two days last month were cooler than Sydney's long-term average for July, which is 16.4°C. A string of eight consecutive days over 20°C late in the month was also a new record during July.

Six of Sydney's 10 warmest Julys on record have occurred during the last seven years, based on average maximum temperatures.

Sydney's mean minimum temperature last month was 9.5°C, which is 1.4°C above average for July and the warmest in three years.
