Array of weather for South Australia today

A large inland trough combined with a low-pressure system currently residing over the Great Australia Bight is resulting in a large array of weather today in South Australia.

An inland trough which has been moving east across the country over the past few days and is now situated just above Oodnadatta, stretching down to the coast around Adelaide. This trough is drawing heat from northwest Australia and feeding it towards South Australia, resulting in some well above average temperatures for northern parts of the state as well as areas of raised dust with some gusty wind conditions.

Oodnadatta reached a top of 38 degrees today, which is almost 8 degrees above the October average. Coober Pedy also recorded a high temperature of 33 degrees, around 4 degrees above average for this time of year.

Moving into southern and coastal parts of the state, the trough has combined with a low-pressure system just off the South Australian coast. The instability provided by the trough along with the low-pressure has caused some widespread, locally heavy showers for West Coast and Lower Eyre, Eastern Eyre and Yorke peninsulas.

Some lightning strikes were also recorded about Ceduna, however most were offshore. The heaviest falls so far have been recorded in Port Lincoln Ap (7mm) and Cummins Ap (6mm), with rainfall expected to continue to move east with the low-pressure system.
