Blizzards developing on Australian Alps as we enter season's snowiest week

Wind is howling as we enter what should be the snowiest week of the year with 70-120 centimetres of fresh snow due to fall across the main resorts. This should take the natural snow depth to not only a season high but the highest in years.
During Sunday wind has been gusting to 146 km/h at Thredbo Top Station, its windiest day in three years, and there are a few windy days ahead.
Rain will tend to snow late on Sunday as the first cold front moves through. It will then become very cold and windy with heavy snowfalls and blizzards during Monday, Tuesday and early Wednesday due to two more fronts. Snow should fall as low as about 700 metres across the Alps on Tuesday night. Wind and snow showers will ease during Wednesday/Thursday.
During Friday/Saturday a weaker front will bring another burst of fresh snow showers, falling below 1000 metres.
By this time next week the natural snow depth should be near 200cm at Hotham and Falls Creek and beyond 250cm at Thredbo/Perisher, which would make it the deepest in at least five years.
