Blocking high, sunny sky

Thomas Hough, Saturday November 11, 2017 - 16:15 AEDT

Whilst half of the nation is currently experiencing some pretty stormy conditions the other half is enjoying pleasant temperatures and plenty of sunshine. So what's bringing these sunny skies to NSW and QLD.

Thanks goes to a large blocking high currently centered over the Tasman Sea. Under it's influence large swathes of QLD and NSW are seeing clear skies and light northerly component winds bringing warm temperatures across the states.

Whilst the high is good news for inland parts, the current position of the high means that winds along the coast are onshore, leading to coastal showers along the eastern seaboard.

As the high, and a low with associated trough behind it, gradually drift eastwards over the coming days these showers should ease, with coastal winds becoming more northerly. Conditions will also begin to warm slightly as warmer air is drawn down ahead of the approaching low pressure trough.

So with only a couple of days before this high pressure system gives way, head outside and enjoy the fine weather!
