Brief relief for the UK

Thomas Hough, Saturday July 28, 2018 - 14:57 AEST

After weeks of baking in 30 degree heat in some areas, the UK is getting some much needed relief.

A stubborn high pressure system has finally given way, clearing a path for Atlantic low pressures systems to move across the country.

The cooler, wetter and windier conditions bring an end the heatwave that has affected the UK in recent weeks. Thunderstorms rolled over eastern parts of the country yesterday, with more wet and windy weather to come over the weekend.

The UK Met Office currently has warnings in place for more thunderstorms over northeastern parts of Scotland on Saturday, with further warnings for southwest England on Sunday and Monday for wind and rain.

The cooler conditions may not last long however, with temperatures set to climb again towards the end of next week.
