Brisbane's wet long weekend

Over the next week, Brisbane is expected to receive periods of rain each day with unstable onshore winds.

Until April this year, Birsbane had received, in total, 247mm of rainfall, a fair bit short of its long term average of 411mm for the same period. This is particularly strange as March of this year had seen Brisbane record its second highest total March rainfall of 181mm in over 10 years of records (Highest 298mm in 2017).

The overall low rainfall total can be explained by Brisbane having its driest summer in 119 years of records. February had about 25% of its total monthly rainfall this year (only 38mm) while January had less than 20% of its total monthly rainfall (28mm).

This April had started off quite dry with only 15mm of rain falling before the long weekend. Since then, 12mm of rain has already fallen in two days and more is yet to come over the next week.

Today, showers from the morning onwards could bring as much as 20mm of rain for Brisbane with subsequent days each potentially having 5mm of rain each. Although these figures are not jaw-dropping, the cumulative total of this week of rain could see Brisbane go well past its total April rainfall average of 65mm.

Looking at the temperatures, Brisbane will be quite warm over the next week despite showers. Daytime maximums should fluctuate around 27 degrees and peak on Friday 26th, potentially 29 degrees. Temperatures should then begin to cool down.
