Clear start to Vivid Sydney

Ben Domensino, Friday May 26, 2017 - 16:30 AEST

It will be a picture-perfect start to Vivid Sydney as lasers, stars and moonlight illuminate the harbour tonight.

There will be no rain and winds will generally be light, allowing spectators to enjoy in the show without a worry.

However, winds from the south and generally clear skies will make the evening feel a bit colder at times than the mercury suggests.

Mostly clear skies will allow the temperature to drop once the sun goes down, so be sure to layer up if youâ??re heading into town. From this afternoonâ??s high of 21 degrees, the mercury will dip to 16 by 8pm and reach an overnight minimum of 12 degrees.

Tomorrow night will be just as nice for those attending the festival, although colder conditions will develop early next week behind a pair of cold fronts.

Vivid Sydney runs from tonight until 17th June and the latest forecasts are available here: http://www.weatherzone.com.au/nsw/sydney/sydney

A very wet weekend for southeast Qld, northeast NSW

11:48 AEST A prolonged rainfall event is set to bring large totals to parts of NSW and Qld from Saturday, with possible heavy falls and flooding.  A low-pressure system in the Coral Sea, a deepening coastal trough and persistent easterlies will bring moisture-laden air into southeast Qld and northeast NSW will bring days of rainfall to the region.  While there is not a drop of rain on the radar over southeast Qld and Northeast NSW on Friday morning, the mass of cloud associated with a low in the Coral Sea will enhance rainfall over the weekend.
