Cold fronts deliver healthy snowfalls and large surf to the southeast

A pair of cold fronts are moving away over the Tasman Sea, but not before generating powerful winds, heavy snowfalls and large surf.
As the fronts approached the southeast over the weekend, powerful winds were directed at South Australia. Mount Gambier recorded a 115km/h wind gust on Friday night, Neptune Island recorded a wind gust of 117km/h early on Saturday morning, and a gust of 93km/h blew across Adelaide Airport. The winds maintained their strength as the fronts moved over southern New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania, and as they crossed the higher mountains, they combined with heavy snowfalls to create blizzard conditions.
The blizzards made it very hard to see on Saturday for skiers and boarders, however the snow was plentiful and powdery. By Sunday morning, some resorts had received 20-40cm of new snow from the fronts. The powerful winds also brought snow onto the resorts from the backcountry, helping to increase the snow depth.
The fronts have moved over the Tasman Sea, and are currently generating large waves that will move up the coast tonight and into Monday. 6-8 foot waves with plenty of energy will impact the coast on Monday, with the odd rogue larger set wave. A Hazardous Surf Warning is current for the Macquarie Coast, Hunter Coast and Sydney Coast.
The next significant snow-bearing cold front looks to arrive around Monday next week, with another 10-20cm possible over a couple of days.

A very wet weekend for southeast Qld, northeast NSW
11:48 AEST A prolonged rainfall event is set to bring large totals to parts of NSW and Qld from Saturday, with possible heavy falls and flooding. A low-pressure system in the Coral Sea, a deepening coastal trough and persistent easterlies will bring moisture-laden air into southeast Qld and northeast NSW will bring days of rainfall to the region. While there is not a drop of rain on the radar over southeast Qld and Northeast NSW on Friday morning, the mass of cloud associated with a low in the Coral Sea will enhance rainfall over the weekend.
