Bunbury had its coldest morning so far this year, when temperatures in the early hours of the morning dropped down to nine degrees.
Clear skies overnight were largely due to the presence of a high pressure system, which in turn contributed to the cold morning.
What must have made this temperature feel significant is that it will likely be followed by a 31 degree day.
While minimum temperatures below 10 degrees are not uncommon in January, these low temperatures for the month in question haven't occurred since January 2015.
The lowest January temperature recorded was a bone-chilling six degrees, on the 26th of January 2001.
As temperatures plunged to below 10 degrees near 5am, temperatures to the north and south didn't quite drop below this mark. Perth managed to stay above 14 degrees, while Albany came close at 11 degrees.
