Cold start to November for Sydney

Sydneysiders are in for their coldest weekend in months as cloud and showers develop.

Extensive cloud and showers combined with cool southerly winds currently flowing up across Sydney. Temperatures are expected remain substantially below the November average of 24 degrees in the city (25-27 degrees in the west) this weekend.

Temperatures for Saturday and Sunday are likely to remain below 20 degrees, resulting in the coolest weekend in about two months. This is unseasonable for this time of year and the last time a November weekend failed to warm into the twenties was around a decade ago, in 2006.

As well as being cold, the weekend isn't looking too bright as cloud and showers settle over the city. The light showers should continue both days, bringing around 10-20mm of rain to the city by Monday.

While temperatures look set to return to average by Monday afternoon, the showers should pick up as a low intensifies over the region. By the time the low has passed, rainfall totals for the three days should end up between 25mm and 50mm in many suburbs.

The weather should clear later in the week, with the chance of showers lessening and temperatures rising to near average.
