Cool change relieves Perth from record heat but only temporarily

Perth reached 38.9 degrees on Friday, the last in a run of four days in which the temperature exceeded 37 degrees. The city experienced a sea breeze at lunchtime, gradually cooling it below 30 degrees by mid afternoon and below 25 in the early evening, a sign of this weekend's weather.
Temperatures are expected to only reach the mid twenties both days this weekend, the first time days have been cooler than average in two weeks. The city could even pick up a few showers, enhancing the cooling relief.
The past four days turned out to be the hottest spell in almost four years and hottest spell this early in the season in more than 120 years of records. The previous earliest the city exceeded 37 degrees on four consecutive days was December 13th to 16th, in 2013. This week's heat came 10 days earlier than the previous record.
Despite the cooler weekend, residents should recover then get prepared for a similar hot spell later next week. The city has a fair chance to again reach at least 37 degrees on four consecutive days.
A low pressure trough is likely to again form off the west coast, delaying any cooling sea breezes.
