Dry July day to follow frosty morning

After a cold and frosty morning across many inland areas of Australia, there's a chance that every capital city in Australia could remain dry on Tuesday.

A large high pressure system drifting over Australia will keep skies clear across most of the country on Tuesday. These clear skies will generate widespread morning frost and little rainfall during the day.

Temperatures will dip low enough for frost to form across inland areas of every state and territory early on Tuesday morning. A frost warning has been issued in Victoria and a road weather alert is in place for parts of Tasmania.

Once the sun climbs into the sky, it's going to be dry for most of the country. In fact, every capital city could get through the day without any rain.

The greatest chance of rain in the capitals on Tuesday will be in Brisbane during the afternoon, with a slight chance of showers also on the forecast for Melbourne and Sydney coastal fringes.

If it stays completely dry in every city during the 24 hours to 9am on Wednesday, it will have been the first time all eight Australian capitals registered a day without rain since May.
