Dry start to spring in Queensland

Rob Sharpe, Sunday September 17, 2017 - 14:54 AEST

Queenslanders are enjoying stunning sunny skies almost everyday with rain very hard to find.

We are now more than halfway through September and so far no location in Queensland has seen more than half its monthly rainfall. In fact the vast majority of the state hasn't seen any precipitation register in the gauge.

Sadly for farmers the dry trend is set to continue for almost the whole state this week.

Thankfully there is a significant exception to this forecast. A low pressure trough is set to deepen slightly across tropical Queensland, with showers likely to affect about half of the region bounded by Cape York, Ingham and Kowanyama between Monday and Wednesday. As is typical, the best falls will be on the east coast near Cairns or Tully, but it's good to see a bit of rain stretching into the west.
