Dust storm sweeping over SA, NSW and VIC

A large dust storm is sweeping over parts of South Australia, Victoria and NSW this afternoon.

Blustery northwesterly winds ahead of a cold front produced a cloud of airborne dust over South Australia’s eastern inland on Wednesday afternoon. By 3pm AEST, the dust was spreading into western parts of NSW and Victoria.

Visibility dropped below 2,000 metres at Broken Hill in NSW shortly before 3pm and below 3,000 metres at Renmark in South Australia and Mildura in Victoria during the afternoon.

Earlier on Wednesday, wind gusts reached 98km/h at Mount William in Victoria and 87km at Yunta in South Australia.

The dust will continue moving towards the east, spreading further across parts of Victoria and NSW during the rest of Wednesday.

Severe weather warnings are also in place for damaging winds in some parts of southeastern Australia.
