Finally. Rain.

Jess Miskelly, Saturday October 20, 2018 - 18:37 AEDT

Unless you live underground, you have probably noticed Sydney is finally having a wet month and the Saturday night storm band is continuing the trend.

So far this month Terrey Hills has recorded 225.4mm of rain, making it the wettest month in 18 months - since March 2017. It is also the wettest October for 14 years. Richmond is similar, its 112.6mm so far this October the wettest since June 2017. They will almost certainly record more overnight Saturday and during Sunday.

Over 15 months is certainly a long time to wait for a good amount of rain when you live near the coast.

Frustratingly, Saturday's rain band was less intense over the inland and brought less than 5mm to most of the very dry Central West Slopes and Plains. There were some heavier falls with Coonamble getting 26mm and Gilgandra 12mm - only it's third day of more than 10mm in a year.

The band is now moving east towards the Northwest Slopes and Plains and should bring widespread falls of around 5mm, with some falls over the north and east of 10-20mm.

It is not enough but hopefully it's better than baking dry.
