Flooding rain looms for Tasmania

A flood watch has been issued for the eastern half of Tasmania, with heavy rain expected during the next two days.
A complex low pressure system will drive heavy rain over central and eastern districts of Tasmania during Thursday and Friday.
While there is still some uncertainty regarding where the heaviest falls will occur, models indicate that some areas could pick up 100-150mm during the two days.
This would be enough rain to cause riverine flooding, despite recent dry weather in some areas. Parts of Tasmania's east coast received less than 30 per cent of their average April rainfall. In the next two days, this region may receive double its entire monthly average for May.
The flood watch issued in Tasmania this morning is likely to be the first in a number of weather advisories issued across southeastern Australia during the coming days.
In addition to the rain, gale force winds, cold air, snow and powerful surf will affect Tasmania during Thursday and Friday.
