Foggy and dusty morning for parts of NSW

Drew Casper-Richardson, Sunday December 2, 2018 - 12:36 AEDT

Thick fog blanketed parts of New South Wales on Sunday morning whilst raised dust limited visibility in other areas.

Parts of western Sydney had thick fog develop in the small hours of Sunday morning and visibility was limited to just 50m at times in Camden and Richmond. This fog lingered until around 8am in the more sheltered areas before increasing northwesterly winds helped to clear it out. Elsewhere, visibility at Maitland also dropped to just 50m and below 500m at Albion Park, Ballina, Moruya and Taree.

Strong winds ahead of an approaching cold front have also whipped up areas of raised dust which can be seen on the visible satellite imagery. Dust haze is impacting parts of the Central West Slopes & Plains, Southern Tablelands and the Illawarra. Visibility at the small town of Grenfell dropped to 1000m on Sunday morning and to 5000m at Goulburn, Nowra and Moss Vale.

Dust may linger over some areas throughout the day, however, a vigorous cold front will move through later on Sunday, flushing out any remaining dust.
