Heating up in Perth

Ben Domensino, Monday March 4, 2019 - 13:51 AEDT

Perth is having a hot start to the week, with the city expected to nudge 40 degrees this afternoon.

Dry and warm easterly winds had already sent the mercury to 34.9 degrees in Perth by 11am. The city is forecast to reach a top of 39 degrees later today, which is about 10 degrees above average for this time of year. this would also be its warmest day since mid-January.

Perth has only reached 39 degrees during March on two occasions during the last six years, both in 2016. The city hasn't hot 40 degrees during March since 2012 and its highest temperature on record for the month was 42.6 degrees, from 2007.

Tomorrow will be another warm and dry day in Perth and should manage to reach the mid-thirties. While this isn;t quite as hot as today, wind will be stronger on Tuesday, which is likely to elevate fire danger ratings in some central and western parts of the state.
