Heating up in Sydney

Temperatures have been steadily climbing across the Sydney basin today, the second day of a prolonged period of heat for the region. As a low pressure trough slowly makes its way east so too does the hot airmass ahead of it, bringing gradually hotter conditions each day and looking to peak on Monday.
For the city itself temperatures are expected to peak in the low 30's on Monday, a long way short of the 43 degrees it sweltered through at the beginning of the month.
However unlike then, when the heat was only around for three days, this time the city is currently looking at conditions remaining around the high 20's to low 30's for the next week. Humidity will also gradually increase during the week making conditions feel a degree or two warmer than actual, making it just that little bit more uncomfortable.
Further west, Penrith and Richmond could see 40 plus degree days both tomorrow and Monday, with both already having seen 40 degrees yesterday and Penrith just scraping 40 today.
Cooler conditions looks to return to the Sydney area around next weekend, with the airmass currently leading to these temperatures lingering around until then, only looking to retreat further inland about this time next week.
