If you thought Sydney was cold this morning, wait for tomorrow

Parts of New South Wales, including some Sydney suburbs, have just had their coldest morning of the year, but tomorrow morning looks even colder.
Some suburbs and towns which have just had their coldest morning of the year included Bankstown (2.4 degrees), Canterbury (2.5 degrees), Homebush (3.3 degrees), Bellambi (6.6 degrees) and Kiama (7.0 degrees).
Those with a fair chance to have the coldest morning of the year tomorrow are Sydney City (about six degrees), Mascot (about six degrees), Terrey Hills (about four degrees), Penrith (about one degree), Katoomba (about minus one degree) and Trangie (about zero degrees.
Why is this so?
Clear skies and drying winds have contributed to the recent chilly mornings.
A cold front currently crossing southeastern Australia is bringing snow to the Alps but further north is effectively only drying out winds and keeping skies clear. So come tonight (close to the longest night of the year), winds in central NSW will dry out while skies stay almost totally clear, potentially giving the area its cold morning on the year so far.
And it may get colder a bit over a week later, once a stronger snow-bearing front ploughs through.
