Late September snow for the Alps

As thoughts turn to warmer weather and what lies ahead for Australia's summer, there may be some already missing the colder days of winter and the snow season.

Although temperatures are now beginning to warm, that doesn't mean the end of alpine snow for the year. Another cold front clipping the far southeast tomorrow (Monday 23rd) will bring with it a new pool of cold air and showers, with a few centimetres of snow expected to fall over the alpine region above about 1000m.

This will be closely followed by clearing skies mid-week, with temperatures remaining cold enough overnight for snow guns to get to work. Although melting has occurred with the warmth of recent days, natural snow depth remains deeper-than-average for this time of year.

So if you're lucky enough to have a few days off mid-week, the next few days look prime opportunity to hit the slopes one more time.

A very wet weekend for southeast Qld, northeast NSW

11:48 AEST A prolonged rainfall event is set to bring large totals to parts of NSW and Qld from Saturday, with possible heavy falls and flooding. A low-pressure system in the Coral Sea, a deepening coastal trough and persistent easterlies will bring moisture-laden air into southeast Qld and northeast NSW will bring days of rainfall to the region. While there is not a drop of rain on the radar over southeast Qld and Northeast NSW on Friday morning, the mass of cloud associated with a low in the Coral Sea will enhance rainfall over the weekend.
