More rain on the horizon for eastern, southeast Australia

Ben Domensino, Friday January 17, 2020 - 14:52 AEDT

Wet weather will continue to affect parts of eastern and southeastern Australia this weekend and early next week, with heavy rain and severe thunderstorms likely in some areas.

On Saturday, the focus of the heaviest rain will be from central Queensland down to central NSW near a low pressure trough. Severe thunderstorms and heavy rain are likely in both states, with flash flooding a good chance underneath the day's more intense storms.

Early next week, a cut-off upper-level low pressure system will cause showers and thunderstorms to become more widespread over southeastern Australia, while storms will also continue through parts of eastern Australia.
