Plenty of lightning over the western Top End as the Build Up continues

Thunderstorms certainly have not been lacking over western parts of the Top End this weekend as the Build Up keeps rolling on.
The Build Up, running from the start of October until the end of November, is when Top End locals notice the wind changing direction and humidity significantly increasing. With the increased humidity, thunderstorms become regular and this weekend is no different.
On Saturday, a severe thunderstorm warning for heavy rainfall was issued for the Daly district. From 5pm Saturday to 10am Sunday, well over 200,000 lightning strikes were detected in a 100km radius of Daly River town, the majority being cloud-to-cloud strikes. Batchelor Airport received over 41mm of rain to 9am on Sunday, 25mm falling between midnight and 12:30am. The highest rainfall totals recorded, however, was 100mm by a rain gauge at Adelaide River West.
As the Build Up continues and a trough persists over the region, thunderstorms are likely to continue into this evening, some possibly severe anywhere between Darwin and Wadeye. The trough looks to migrate south over the coming days, likely triggering thunderstorms over a wider area.
