Rain and storms sweeping across WA

Ben Domensino, Thursday October 4, 2018 - 15:39 AEST

Parts of Western Australia have received their best rain in a few months as a low pressure system and trough sweeps across the state.

During the 24 hours to 9am on Thursday, widespread falls of 5-15mm were recorded across Western Australia's South West Land Division. Katanning in the Great Southern District received 13mm, which was the town's heaviest rain since the middle of July. Perth's 7mm during up to 9am was the city's best fall in two months.

Rain and thunderstorms will continue across a large area of Western Australia during the next two days as the low and trough slowly move towards the east. The heaviest falls are likely to occur over the state's south and interior, with some areas likely to see severe thunderstorms. Falls will be lighter near the west coast from now on.

Drier weather will return to most of the state from Saturday. Visit http://www.weatherzone.com.au/warnings.jsp for the latest warnings.
