Record June warm spell in Sydney

Ben Domensino, Friday June 14, 2019 - 20:53 AEST

Sydney experienced an unprecedented run of June warmth this week.

The city's Observatory Hill weather station registered maximum temperatures at or above 22.0 degrees between Sunday 9th and Thursday 13th of June.

This is Sydney's first five day spell this warm during June on record, with observations dating back to 1859.

The previous record of three consecutive June days at or above 22 degree occurred in 2015, 1975, 1958 and 1923.

Friday's top of 19 degrees ended Sydney's record run of June warmth, although it was still a couple of degrees above average for this time of year.
