Several weather systems set to pummel NZ

New Zealanders are bracing for a week of wild weather.
Beginning on Thursday, a low pressure trough and cold front will sweep over the South Island, while much of the North Island will have sunny and settled conditions under a high pressure system.
Over the weekend it will be the North Island's turn for the rain. A large a complex low likely to bring heavy falls, gales and thunderstorms. This low may persist until Monday for the far east, with the west and north seeing rapidly improving conditions.
Patchy showers will tend to rain again for southwestern parts of the country as a deep front arrives on Wednesday, sending a strong burst of winter-like weather over the South Island.
By this time next week, several large stretches of the country may see falls exceed 100mm, especially over western parts of the South Island. Weekly rainfall totals will be comparatively lighter for the Canterbury and Otago districts, with most places likely to see 20mm or less.
