Still summer in Perth

Jess Miskelly, Saturday March 21, 2020 - 13:18 AEDT

Perth will experience a lingering summer this week, with all of the next 6 days forecast to exceed 30 degrees.

Though only a couple of degrees warmer than average for the month of March, this would be the warmest week this late in the season since 2011.

The cause of the heat will be a near stationary high pressure system sitting over the Great Australian Bight, directing gusty and warm easterly winds over the southwest coast.

A low pressure trough being dragged east with the high today (Saturday) is leading to a few storms about the southwest to the start the summer spell, mainly over the Great Southern for now.   These will gradually edge north and east during the day with the potential to bring a gusty thunderstorm to the Perth area this afternoon.
