Sunday night storms light up Perth

Severe thunderstorms targeted populated areas in Western Australia on Sunday night.
A broad area of low pressure draped across the state triggered widespread thunderstorms on Sunday.
While most of the day's storms occurred inland, lightning strikes lit up the sky above Perth and Mandurah on Sunday evening, prompting warnings for large hail and heavy rainfall.
Sunday's storms produced close to 2000 lightning strikes within a 100km radius of Perth, while large hail caused minor roof damage near Mandurah.
The heaviest rain in the region was 8mm at a gauge near Old Mandurah Road, although falls of 20-30mm were registered further north in the Central Wheatbelt near Dalwallinu.
More settled weather will return to the southwest of WA during the first half of this week, although storms will continue further north and east.
The risk of thunderstorms will return to Perth from Thursday as a low pressure trough and cold front sweep over the Southwest Land Division.
