Sydney to finally receive a bit of rain

With Sydney not having received a drop of rain since mid September, some welcome falls are on the cards for the end of the weekend.

A deepening surface trough and cold front should combine to produce widespread showers and isolated thunderstorms across NSW on Sunday, with rainfall reaching the Sydney Basin late in the afternoon and evening and lasting into Monday.

However, not a great deal of rainfall is expected to fall over the city itself over the two days, at least not enough to bolster the 0.2 millimeters that fell back in mid September.

Totals of two to five millimetres across the city are likely for the 48-hour period, with possible pockets of higher totals. Elsewhere in the state, it looks like a respectable 15-30 millimetres will fall over the slopes, ranges and tablelands during the course of the event, with some parts likely to pick up in excess of 40 millimetres.

It looks like Sydney will have to wait a bit longer for promising spring rainfall, which is more likely to arrive later in the month.
