Bob Neil, Sunday October 1, 2017 - 13:45 AEDT

NRL players and fans alike will be greeted with perfect conditions for the Grand Final match-up between Melbourne Storm and North Queensland Cowboys at Sydney Olympic Park this evening. With clear skies, light winds and a maximum temperature of 22 degrees today at Homebush, conditions leading up to the big game could not be much better. By kickoff at 7.15pm, the temperature will be a mild 17 degrees, with light easterly winds.

For those looking to make the most of the long weekend, Monday is also set to be a great day. With a mild morning followed by a mostly sunny day and a maximum temperature of 23 degrees, conditions look to be perfect for the extra day off.

Further into the week, Sydney should see an end to the dry spell it has had this last month, with showers forecast from Wednesday.

A very wet weekend for southeast Qld, northeast NSW

11:48 AEST A prolonged rainfall event is set to bring large totals to parts of NSW and Qld from Saturday, with possible heavy falls and flooding.  A low-pressure system in the Coral Sea, a deepening coastal trough and persistent easterlies will bring moisture-laden air into southeast Qld and northeast NSW will bring days of rainfall to the region.  While there is not a drop of rain on the radar over southeast Qld and Northeast NSW on Friday morning, the mass of cloud associated with a low in the Coral Sea will enhance rainfall over the weekend.
