Parts of the Northern Territory's Top End are facing extreme fire danger today as hot, dry and windy weather prevails.
A number of fires have been burning in the region this week as a high pressure system centred over southern Australia fans the Top End with dry and gusty southeasterly winds.
A Fire Weather Warning has been issued for Extreme Fire Danger in the Darwin and Adelaide River area today, where temperatures are forecast to reach 36 degrees.
Most other areas of the Top End are expected to see Severe Fire Danger ratings today.
Bushfires NT have issued a Total Fire Ban on Friday for the Northern Rivers and Katherine Fire Protection Zones and the Arnhem West, Daly South and Carpentaria East Fire Weather Forecast Areas. This ban lasts until midnight.
Darwin's forecast top of 36 degrees today is three above average for this time of year.
