Tropical Cyclone Harold came and went

Australia's seventh named tropical cyclone of the season formed on Thursday, shortly before passing out of the country’s area of responsibility.

Tropical Cyclone Harold formed over the northern Coral Sea to the west of the Solomon Islands on Thursday evening. Less than 24 hours later, the system had moved east, out of the Australian region and into Fiji's area of responsibility.

Despite moving into Fiji's region, Harold maintains the name assigned to it by Australia. This is a standard practice to avoid confusion in official warnings and emergency information.

Harold is expected to move towards the southeast this weekend while gaining strength. This track will cause wind and rain to intensify in Vanuatu, with severe weather possible from Sunday or Monday.

April is the last month of Australia's six month tropical cyclone season.
