Warm night in parched Adelaide

Adelaide woke up to its warmest April morning in 10 years but a change is on the way.

The city reached a February-like top of 29 degrees on Monday as warm northeasterly winds flowed into the city.

Cloud cover helped trap this warm air near the surface overnight and the mercury only reached a low of 23 degrees shortly before 7am today. This was 11 degrees above the average minimum for this time of year and is the city's warmest April morning in 10 years.

The warmest days and nights usually occur ahead of a cool change and this is exactly what's in store for Adelaide.

After an expected top in the low thirties today, tomorrow's maximum temperature is forecast to reach just 24 degrees in Adelaide.

There is even a chance of some rain and a storm on Thursday, which would be welcome by parched parks and gardens across Adelaide. There had only been 3.6mm of rain recorded this month as of 9am today, which is the lowest amount to this point in April for four years.
