Warm week in the south

A low intensity heatwave will affect Australia's southern states this week. While its not going to be as hot as it can get in these parts of the country, some people's health and wellbeing may be affected during this event.

A slow moving pool of hot air will sweep across the nation's south during the next four days as a high pressure system moves across the Tasman Sea.

The heat will gradually build during the week and temperatures are forecast to climb 10 degrees above average in parts of South Australia and Victoria between Wednesday and Friday.

Adelaide reached 34 degrees on Sunday and is forecast to hit the mid to high thirties between Monday and Friday. If the temperature reaches at least 34 degrees each day until Friday, this will be Adelaide's first six day spell above 34 degrees since 2015 and the first to occur during February since 2009.

Further inland, Mildura could reach 39-42 degrees from Tuesday to Friday, which is 7-10 degrees above average for this time of year?

Even though this is a low intensity heatwave for most of South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria, its prolonged nature may make it a tiring week for some people.

Cooler weather will arrive on the weekend as a front sweeps across southern Australia.

A very wet weekend for southeast Qld, northeast NSW

A low-pressure system in the Coral Sea, a deepening coastal trough and persistent easterlies will bring moisture-laden air into southeast Qld and northeast NSW will bring days of rainfall to the region. While there is not a drop of rain on the radar over southeast Qld and Northeast NSW on Friday morning, the mass of cloud associated with a low in the Coral Sea will enhance rainfall over the weekend.
