Western soaking spreads south

Perth is having its wettest day in five months as the remnants of Tropical Cyclone Joyce drag moisture across Western Australia.
Tropical air feeding into the remnants of Joyce and an associated trough is generating widespread rain and storms over central and western districts of WA. These systems and the rain associated with them will continue to spread southwards during the next 24 hours.
Perth had received close to 30mm of rain between 8am and 3pm today, with periods of heavy falls producing up to 5mm in the space of 10 minutes.
The 22.4mm of rain that fell between 9am and 3:10pm today is more than Perth's entire January monthly average and makes this the city's wettest day since last August.
Rain will continue in Perth into this evening and overnight before the heaviest and most persistent falls contract south of the city on Tuesday morning.
The widespread soaking has prompted flood watches and warnings in a number of districts. River level rises and are likely and some roads may become impassable during the next couple of days.
