Wet dry seesaw

The history of agriculture in Queensland is long and perhaps the last 2 years of below average rainfall and very high temperatures have felt even longer.
Queensland, almost in its entirety, is heading into a much talked about heatwave for the coming week. Whatâ??s perhaps been less talked about is that the same agricultural regions about to brave the heatwave - The Darling Downs & Granite Belt, Maranoa & Warrego and Central West for example - have also had less than 50% of their long term average rainfall amounts over the last year. The last two years combined have also been well below average.
In contrast, the Kununurra agricultural region in northern WA is boasting 125-150% of their long term average rainfall over the same periods, that region may be a less stressful place to be right now.
The somewhat good news is that there are growing indications of a rain event over Queenslandâ??s northern inland towards the end of this month.
