Wettest October in three years for the NT

A series of slow-moving low pressure troughs has led to significant rainfall across the Northern Territory during the first week of October.

During the first two days of the month, thunderstorms led to very good totals as a storm band swept across the state. Widespread falls of 15 to 30 millimetres were experienced, with Pirlangimpi and Jabiru both picking up over 30 milimetres.

On Friday and during this weekend, another deep trough is leading to widespread showers and thunderstorms over the central and southern parts of the Territory, with Uluru already having picked up more than 20 millimetres in two days.

October 2016 saw below-average rainfall for much of the southern half of the Territory, while the same month in 2015 saw below-average rainfall for almost the entire region.

Thankfully, it's very likely that much of the region will see well-above average rainfall this October, with locations across the state having already exceeded their long-term average.
