Handy rain dampening a dry South Australia

Parts of South Australia's south have received their first decent rain in months, a welcome dampener to a parched state despite it falling on a weekend.
Most of Saturday's rain has fallen about the Mt Lofty Ranges and Mid North although some has been recorded in each district and a few thunderstorms developed in the north, mainly on the Flinders Ranges.
Prior to this rain the land had been dusty and the ground hard, including sporting fields where players and supporters were required to adapt to conditions not experienced so far this season.
Saturday's rain has been the heaviest in about three months in some places, including Strathalbyn (16mm, Murray Bridge (14mm) and Minnipa (3mm). Clare's 10mm, Snowtown's 8mm and Adelaide Airport's 6mm are eight-week highs.
The rain came courtesy of a little tropical moisture being drawn into a low pressure trough which met up with a front. Ideally, it would've have been best arriving in a few weeks ago to help winter crops get going but at least some has finally arrived.

Moisture from this recent rain together with clearing skies and calming wind under a developing high pressure area will herald a foggy start to Mother's Day in some areas. However, mothers need not be disheartened, bright sunny spells are likely to develop during the day in most areas. The area of exception is the Lower SOuth East wherre it will a few showers will linger as it becomes breezy.
