Parts of southeastern Australia, including Canberra, have just shivered through their coldest morning in 4 years, as a high pressure system slowly moves over NSW. The high ensured that skies would remain clear across virtually the entire southeastern mainland coupled with calm winds all night. These conditions allowed temperatures to plummet last night. Cooma, in NSW, took the title for this morning’s coldest location, cracking -10.0°C this morning.

Some of the other freezing locations in NSW this morning included:
Goulburn (-8.1°C)
Glenn Innes (-6.6°C)
Canberra (-6.5°C)
Orange (-5.2°C)
Moss Vale (-4.2°C)
Canberra and Goulburn, along with Albury (-2.6°C), Condobolin (-4.3°C) and West Wyalong (-3.7°C) experienced their coldest morning in 4 years.
Victoria also had an icy morning, as large parts of the state, including Melbourne’s outer suburbs fell below freezing. Melbourne CBD itself dropped to 2.1°C. Elsewhere in VIC, Mt Hotham (-7.7°C), Redesdale (-3.6°C), Tatura (-3.3°C), Kyabram (-3.1°C), and Avalon (-1.8°C), also recorded their coldest morning in 4 years.
Thankfully, today is a bright, sunny day across the southeast as the skies remain clear throughout the day. However, temperatures could plummet again along the east leading to another icy morning in the east tomorrow.
