Autumn chill in Perth

Ben Domensino, Tuesday March 14, 2017 - 15:59 AEDT

Perth may be having its coolest run of days since December as a cold front sweeps across Australia's southwest today.

The city only reached 24 degrees on Monday and is forecast to see similar highs today and tomorrow. This is about five below average for March and would make this the coolest three day spell so far in 2017.

Blustery winds and showers are exacerbating the wintry feel in the southwest today. Cape Leeuwin registered a wind gust of 104km/h late this morning and the temperature felt like five degrees at times due to wind chill. In Perth, 23 degrees at 11am felt more like 19 degrees as wind gusts reached near 50 km/h.

This week's cool weather may be refreshing, but it's not going to challenge records. Perth's coldest March day was a nippy 16.4 degrees back in 1968.

Temperatures will rise a bit from Thursday, although another front will bring cooler conditions back for the weekend.
