Father's Day weather around Australia

Felix Levesque, Sunday September 6, 2020 - 09:01 AEST

Will it be dry and sunny, or wet and windy for your Father's Day Celebrations?

High pressure is keeping much of the southeast of the country dry with sunny blue skies today. Much of South Australia, Victoria, Tasmania and New South Wales can expect excellent weather for any Father’s Day activities.

In Sydney, the odd cloud may bring a light shower or two this morning, but skies should clear up to a nice afternoon reaching the low-20s with light winds. Further south, conditions will be dry and mostly sunny for Canberra, Melbourne and Adelaide, with temperatures in the high-teens, high-teens-to-low-twenties and low-to-mid-twenties, respectively. An approaching low pressure trough will increase northerly winds for Adelaide and Melbourne, helping bring the above average temperatures, and wonderful conditions to test out new barbeque equipment ahead of summer! Hobart will also experience some above average conditions, reaching the high-teens, with partly cloudy skies.

To the west, a trough and front is bringing gusty winds to Perth and much of southwestern Western Australia. This system will also bring showers in the afternoon and evening. Warm northerly winds, and a thick cloud cover, helped bring a warm morning, but will tend to a cooler westerly in the late afternoon and evening. With windy and wet weather, it might be best to just visit the local hardware store with Dad.

Brisbane and southeast Queensland will also experience some showers, along with the possibility of the odd afternoon thunderstorm, as a low pressure trough draws moisture over the region. Temperatures will peak near average in the mid-20s, however a mostly cloudy and wet day will keep dad’s new lawn mower at bay for now.
