Rain in the Red Centre

Alice Springs is having its wettest day since May as rain soaks the Red Centre.

An upper level trough was causing rain over central Australia on Tuesday, which was fallen steadily in some areas throughout the day.

This is the region's first bout of wet weather since the tail end of last wet season.

Alice Springs collected a little over 1mm early on Tuesday morning, before amassing 14mm between 9am and 4pm. This is the highest daily total at Alice Springs Airport in four months.

Further west, a rain gauge at Vaughan Springs collected 32mm and Ormiston saw 18mm during the 24 hours to 9am on Tuesday.

Rain will ease overnight and clear from central Australia Wednesday as the upper trough weakens and moves further east.
