Sydney staying wet

Sydney has already received half of its autumn average rainfall this month and could see more showers each day this week.

The city has endured a string of wet days so far this month, with 223mm of rain recorded across 17 of the first 21 days of March. This is well above average. Sydney usually sees 130mm of rain on 14 days during a typical March.

Thanks to a sodden month-to-date, this is now Sydney's second wettest start to autumn in 39 years. The city is already more than halfway to reaching its long-term autumn average of 378mm.

A persistent onshore flow of moisture from the Tasman Sea and low pressure troughs over eastern Australia have helped produce the prolific rain in the capital city this month.

Unfortunately for those that haven't enjoyed the wet weather, showers are forecast to affect Sydney each day for the rest of this week.
