Tasmania's fire weather to worsen

Bob Neil, Monday January 28, 2019 - 10:43 AEDT

Fire weather is about to worsen in Tasmania as warmth combines with drying, gustier winds.

Fire danger is likely to peak during Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, not reaching the heights of last Friday but still reaching the Very High to Severe ratings in parts of the centre and southeast.

Temperatures are likely to reach the low-to-mid thirties, winds peak at 40-to-60km/h (gusting to 60-to-80km/h) and humidity to drop below 20 percent in areas where the biggest bushfires are still burning.

The next significant change is due to move through later on Wednesday and into Thursday, a combination of cooler (but still gusty) winds and some brief rain, reducing the fire risk by Friday.

The cooling winds will become more gentle during Friday before it reheats and gets blowy briefly next weekend.
