The difference a few kilometres can make...

Despite only being 40km away from each other, Bunbury and Busselton in Western Australia could not have had a more different weather on Thursday.

In Bunbury, it was a fairly warm and partly cloudy but dry day. The temperature capped out at a pleasant 27.4 degrees, about three degrees hotter than average for this time of year. Humidity was also agreeable, hovering around 50% during the middle of the day.

In stark contrast, Busselton, just 40 km down the coast from Bunbury, experienced a cool, and wet day. With a narrow trough crossing overhead, Busselton recorded 38mm in the gauge between 9am and 2pm on Thursday. The trough also brought thick cloud overhead, making the temperature eight degrees cooler than its counterpart, Bunbury, around lunchtime. Naturally, humidity was sitting close to 100% during the rainfall.

Across the region, Nannup recorded the heaviest falls, with 47mm recorded. Meanwhile, further north Perth reached a top of 34 degrees, eight degrees above the April average.

With the trough responsible for the rainfall moving out to sea, warm temperatures are moving into the region over the next few days. Busselton is expected to reach 29 degrees on Friday, having already reached 26 degrees by 11am.
