Warmer mornings ahead for Darwin

Ben Domensino, Friday May 18, 2018 - 17:02 AEST

Darwin's run of chilly mornings will come to an end as minimum temperatures climb back up into the twenties from the weekend.

The city registered its first morning of the year below 20 degrees on Monday and has dipped into the teens at the start of every day this week.

This morning's minimum of 17.9 degrees was four below average and Darwin's coldest May temperature in three years.

The mild mornings have been the result of a surge of cool and dry air that pushed across the Top End this week, thanks to a strong high pressure system to the south of Australia.

Looking ahead, Darwin is forecast to stay above 20 degrees from Sunday morning and minimums should return closer to the monthly average of 22 degrees from Monday.
